David A. Ross, ScD, Capt.(ret.) USPHS, served as the President and CEO of The Task Force for Global Health from 2015 through 2022. Prior to this role he was founding director of the Public Health Informatics Institute, a program of The Task Force for Global Health. Throughout his tenure at The Task Force, he also maintained joint adjunct faculty appointments in the Rollins School of Public Health’s Department of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics and the Department of Global Health. Before joining The Task Force, Dr. Ross served as a Practice Director with Cerner Corporation after he retired from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). While at CDC, Dr. Ross served in scientific and senior management within the Center for Environmental Health, was Assistant Director for Operations for the CDC and later served as the senior Agency official responsible for CDC’s first national information infrastructure initiative.
Before coming to the CDC, Dr. Ross worked as an aerospace engineer at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab and later transition to the Johns Hopkins University’s graduate program in operations research/applied math and biostatistics. After graduating, he led the joint USPHS-JHU Health Services Research Center and then went on to become Vice President for Administration of the Wyman Park at JHU hospital and also maintained faculty teaching responsibilities in the Departments of Applied Math and Computer Sciences.
As a leader in global health, Dr. Ross has led collaborative programs to strengthen information capacity of public health systems in the United States and other countries for more than 35 years. He has guided programs in vaccine equity and neglected tropical diseases. During his tenure at The Task Force for Global Health, Dr. received numerous awards including the Conrad Hilton Humanitarian Prize, Georgia Public Health Giant award from the Georgia Department of Public Health, Georgia’s Holocaust Humanitarian of
the Year award and recently The Atlanta Metro Chamber of Commerce Global Health Leader award. He also has numerous publications and book chapters to his credit.
